Original Space Mountain exit reopens with the automatic walkways removed

The original exit for Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom has finally reopened after being closed for the past several months. The exit pathway has had its automatic walkways removed during the considerably long refurbishment period. New lighting and paint has been added to the route that takes guests back to Tomorrowland.

Watch the video below to see the route guests will take now that the project is complete.

With the powered walkways removed, this does seem like a pretty long walk. The walkway still travels past a few scenes and some colored lighting, but it does have its stretches that are rather bland.

Though Disney hasn’t officially stated why the power walkways were removed, it’s fair to assume it’s because they broke down fairly often and required continual maintenance. Whatever the reason, this route is far better than the temporary one Space Mountain was using that took guests outside and around half of the building while this area was under construction.
