New structure added to island in World Showcase Lagoon for future Epcot fireworks show

The glorious run for Illuminations: Reflections of Earth is gradually approaching its end. With Illuminations set to wrap up at the end of summer 2019, Disney is already hard at work preparing for the new permanent show that will begin in 2020.

We’ve already seen pilings added in several areas in World Showcase Lagoon. Now, we can see that a structure has been constructed on the island in World Showcase Lagoon that sits near the Japan pavilion.

The concrete block structure appears to house electrical equipment that will support the new show set to debut in 2020 following the interim Epcot Forever show. Though the building is extremely visible now, Disney will likely do its best to conceal the structure from view through future landscaping work.

Meanwhile, new platforms have been added near the pilings that were previously placed in the water.

To date, details on the new fireworks show have been relatively scarce outside of some concept art. It’s believed that the new permanent show will feature iconic Disney songs sung in the many languages that make up the countries around World Showcase, but that hasn’t been officially confirmed.
