New Cirque du Soleil show in Disney Springs hopes to open in Fall 2021

Updated:

We finally have an update on the new Cirque du Soleil show that will play in the theatre at Disney Springs. Drawn to Life, the collaborative effort between Disney and Cirque du Soleil, is expected to open in Fall 2021.

Cirque du Soleil CEO Daniel Lamarre recently spoke with the LA Times about the company’s plans for resuming shows. During the interview, he specifically commented on the new show that’s coming to Walt Disney World.

“Itโ€™s a tribute to Disney animation, and we felt honored to have the opportunity to do a show with the IP [intellectual property] of Disney. We should be able to open sometime in the fall.”

Of course, the goal of a Fall 2021 debut is subject to change until it’s officially announced. The past year has shown that even the best plans can be unpredictably changed.

Cirque du Soleil previously released a brief summary on Drawn to Life.

This new show follows the story of Julie, a courageous and determined girl who discovers an unexpected gift left by her late father: an unfinished animation piece. Guided by a surprising pencil, she embarks on an inspiring quest sprinkled with her Disney childhood memories. Through this journey, she will learn to imagine new possibilities and animate the story of her future.

Drawn to Life will take over the mantle from La Nouba, the show that played at Disney Springs between 1998 and 2017. La Nouba was the original show that opened with the custom-built Cirque du Soleil theatre in Downtown Disney (now Disney Springs).

Below is a quick look at some of the early rehearsals for Drawn to Life.

Hopefully an official opening date will be announced in the near future.
