Disney has announced another update on the changes coming to the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland and Magic Kingdom. The ride’s final scene featuring Trader Sam will be replaced with a new scene featuring Trader Sam’s Gift Shop.
The updated ending depicts Trader Sam turning an old Lost & Found location into a gift shop. But, when Trader Sam is off looking for more items, several animals take over the store.
We can’t help but notice there’s a small monkey sitting on an old fashioned camera on the edge of the dock. There’s also a large “Cruise Photo: Here!” sign hanging above. Will this be a new on-ride photo? It looks like Pirates of the Caribbean will be dethroned for most awkward ride photo at Magic Kingdom.
Here’s how Disney described the upcoming change to the classic attraction:
Word on the stream is that Alberta Falls, proprietor of the Jungle Navigation Company Ltd., has entrusted her longtime friend, Trader Sam, to manage the new Lost & Found location. But, with Trader Sam being Trader Sam, there’s always an opportunity to make some extra money. After all, all the best rides end with a gift shop, right?
Take a look at this rendering of their newest venture together. Clearly, Sam is betting on an established reputation as the best merchant in the jungle! But, while he’s out lost and finding some new inventory, it’s the animals that get the last laugh!
This update will allow Disney to keep using the Trader Sam name and concept while removing the controversial animatronic. Guests worried about the future of Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort should be relieved by this approach.
All of the Jungle Cruise updates are expected to be completed at Magic Kingdom in 2021.
