Disney has increased the price of the premium Genie+ service at Disneyland. Genie+ will now cost $30 per day (up from $25) for guests who purchase the service in advance of their visit. The cost of same-day Genie+ purchases will continue to vary in price at Disneyland, but will start at least $30.
Following the announcement on October 11, 2023, the same-day Genie+ price at Disneyland hit a new record-high of $35. In related news, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and Under The Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid are joining the Genie+ lineup.
Disney increasing the price of Genie+ at Disneyland isn’t a surprise as the system has been stretched by large crowds in recent weeks. It hasn’t fully collapsed, but it has struggled to meet guest demand. Lightning Lanes have been full and waits have increased, which is not great for the perceived value of Genie+.
The problem with Genie+ is that its value to the guest is directly correlated to how many other guests have Genie+. Disney can’t let too many people have Genie+ or the premium service loses its value. A more expensive Genie+ could actually create a better guest experience with fewer guests buying it.
