Disney has issued a new press release that previews some of the major changes coming to Epcot. The announcement includes the nighttime show Harmonious, the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind coaster and a notable change regarding festivals.
The latest from Disney refers to a “festival area” and makes no mention of the previously announced Festival Center. Their exact comment outlines how the festival area will relate to Dreamers Point.
“Surrounding this enchanted garden will be new retail and dining locations, along with a newly reimagined festival area that will be home to ever-changing events in a unique new environment.”
Disney’s language appears to be intentionally vague. Earlier rumors suggested the three-story Festival Center, which sort of resembled a giant coffee table, might be scrapped or redesigned due to budget cuts. That rumor was supported when the Festival Center was removed from the Epcot Experience attraction that previews Epcot’s upcoming changes.
It sounds like Disney hasn’t made a formal decision on what their festival space will look like. A simpler, smaller building or even an outdoor area are possibilities. It’s also possible Disney will put this idea on hold indefinitely until other construction projects wrap up or until the current financial turmoil stabilizes.
