Epcot testing out new lighting structures near guest walkways

Guests visiting Epcot at night will be able to spot some new lighting poles positioned by walkways in what will eventually become World Celebration. The lighting poles are located near some of the paths that connect the old Innoventions West area to the Imagination Pavilion.

The lighting poles are similar to the ones found in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom, though those are a bit more directional.

Here’s how things look from the Monorail.

We’re not entirely sold on these new lighting poles. Due to their design that casts light in all directions and not straight down at the walkway, it makes it difficult to see past them and enjoy the beauty that is Epcot at night. They’re a bit obstructive. It also feels like they may fit more into the theming of Future World rather than whatever the theme will be of World Celebration.

While the lights appear to be a test at this time, it’s unclear whether they’re apart of the larger plans for the redesign of Epcot.
