Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane launches October 19, more details revealed

Updated:

Disney Genie, Genie+ and Lightning Lane will officially launch October 19 at Walt Disney World. The new planning service and FastPass+ replacement will usher in the era of paid line skipping at the theme parks.

Disney Genie is the updated planning tool that will be added to My Disney Experience. The Disney Genie – which is free – will aim to optimize trips by showing wait times, downtimes, weather and more.

Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane is the real story. Disney Genie+ is the upcharge that will allow guests to skip the standby line for attractions. Guests will need to pay for Disney Genie+ ($15 per ticket, per day) to be eligible to book a Lightning Lane pass. You can only use Lightning Lane once per attraction per day.

Guests using Disney Genie+ Lightning Lane must redeem a Lightning Lane pass or 120 minutes (whichever happens sooner) before making their next reservation. Individual Lighting Lane attractions can be booked immediately at 7am.

Individual Lightning Lane attractions (Disney couldn’t come up with a name for this?) are not included in Disney Genie+ and require a separate fee.

Individual Lightning Lane attractions:

Magic Kingdom:
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
Space Mountain

Epcot:
Remyโ€™s Ratatouille Adventure
Frozen Ever After

Hollywood Studios:
Rise of the Resistance
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Animal Kingdom:
Flight of Passage
Expedition Everest

Prices for Individual Lightning Lane attractions will vary. Examples shown by Disney range between $7 and $15 per person, per ride.

The introduction of Disney Genie, Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane represents a seismic shift in planning a trip to Walt Disney World. Gone are the days of complimentary line skipping. Guests will need to get accustomed to how Disney Genie+ will alter wait times and make the decision of how much they’re willing to pay to skip the wait for Walt Disney World’s top attractions.
