Crews are starting to transform Cinderella Castle for its royal makeover

Updated:

In February 2020, Disney announced that Cinderella Castle would receive a “royal makeover” to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Cinderella. That makeover is now underway as large extendable cranes are in place for crews to start updating the icon of the Magic Kingdom.

Thanks to WDWMagic.com, we can see that several cranes are in place and crews are beginning to paint the castle. These portable cranes allow for crews to work on the castle without large scaffolding blocking views for guests. However, we’d imagine some form of scaffolding will be needed to complete this project. How obtrusive that scaffolding will be remains to be seen.

We can also see that crews painted a sample swatch of paint that shows some of the new reflective paint. It’s unclear if this is more representative of the final look or if this was just a test to see how this paint looked on this particular surface.

The Cinderella Castle makeover is expected to be completed in Summer 2020. Until then, guests at the Magic Kingdom should expect to see crews, cranes and even scaffolding around the castle.
