Fresh off of the report that the theater project at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom has been cancelled, here’s some positive news for people hoping to see some new construction at the resort’s most popular theme park.
Construction on the new Tron coaster that will sit near Space Mountain in Tomorrowland is scheduled to begin on February 6th, 2018, as reported by Blog Mickey. Blog Mickey cites the permit documents filed with the state indicate the start date as well as an expiration date of August 16th, 2021.
Keep in mind that the actual opening date of the ride will differ from the one listed as the date when the permit expires, but this does seem to indicate that it will open in 2021 barring any major delays.
Take a look at the ride in Shanghai to see what’s coming to the Magic Kingdom, albeit with some slight differences.
Based on the concept art shown at D23 2017, the new Tron coaster will sit near Space Mountain and the Tommorowland Speedway. In connection with the Tron coaster, it has been reported that the Speedway will take on a new look in order to match the new aesthetic of Tommorowland. The Tron coaster should also influence the Walt Disney World Railroad, but it’s unclear to what degree.
Photos of the progress on the new addition to the Magic Kingdom should be pretty easy to find thanks to some good views from the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover.
