The transformation of Epcot’s Future World took a significant step forward overnight. New construction walls have been added around Future World, completely closing off what used to be the center area near the Fountain of Nations. Guests are now asked to use one of two bypass walkways to navigate around Future World.
New signage, including cast members holding portable signs, has been added in front of Spaceship Earth.
WDWMagic has some great photos showing the routes guests will have to use when arriving at Epcot’s main entrance. The eastern path will take you quite close to the old Universe of Energy building, offering a chance to see the progress on the new Guardians of the Galaxy coaster.
One of the new construction fences blocks off the breezeway at Innoventions East.
With the center of Future World now closed, this also signaled the end of the Electric Umbrella quick service restaurant. Cast members cheered for the restaurant’s final customer.
A temporary quick service kiosk will open soon near Test Track.
The updated guide map, which we saw a sneak preview of a few weeks ago, depicts the center of Future World as green space. In reality, it’ll be a sea of construction as Epcot moves away from its storied past and into a new future.
