Walt Disney World’s Blizzard Beach might see some upgrades during an extended refurbishment period later this year. The water park is expected to close September 8, 2019 before reopening in the first week or two of January 2020.
That refurbishment period is longer than the usual one seen at Walt Disney World water parks, suggesting that some potential updates might be added during the closure. WDWMagic reports that some “enhancements” are expected, but didn’t go into any detail on what that might entail.
Blizzard Beach might be overdue for some attention after Typhoon Lagoon received a new attraction, Miss Adventure Falls, that opened in 2017. There’s also some fierce competition for local residents from Universal Studios in the form of Volcano Bay. Adding something new to Blizzard Beach in addition to some fresh paint and general maintenance seems possible, though Disney hasn’t officially announced anything at this time.
While we thoroughly enjoy Blizzard Beach’s unique theme, the park as a whole needs to add something new to avoid being passed up by its local competition.
