Disneyland is once again talking about removing the gas-powered vehicles from its Autopia attraction. The OC Register reports that the gas vehicles will be retired in early 2027. They also report that Disney is working on the “design, engineering and testing” of new electric vehicles.
Currently, Disney isn’t committing to when the new electric vehicles will be used in Autopia. They’re only committing to removing the gas-powered cars in early 2027.
It sounds like Disney is still in the relatively early stages of getting electric cars ready for the attraction. Because of that, Autopia is likely closing for a lengthy refurbishment (possibly a very lengthy refurbishment) in early 2027. No official closing dates have been announced yet.
Does this story found familiar? The LA Times reported in 2024 that Disney was going to convert Autopia to electric vehicles by 2026. That obviously hasn’t happened, and now the new goal is to simply remove the gas-powered cars early next year. It’s unclear when the new electric cars will debut.
At the very least, it sounds like Autopia will continue to have a home in Disneyland Park’s Tomorrowland. We’re not sure what Disney has planned for the ride beyond the electric cars, but we’re hoping for one specific change – update the safety audio loop heard in the queue. Hearing “Yo soy Bird!” on a loop is a recipe for road rage.
Disney says more details about Autopia will be revealed soon.
