Work is finally underway on Disney Cruise Line’s largest ship, the Global Dream, at MV Werften. According to Seatrade Cruise News, work ramped up on the Global Dream in the past month.
During construction, crews will reduce the ship’s capacity (down from 9,000+ passengers to around 6,000), alter what kind of fuel the ship will operate on, and build out unique spaces that fit Disney Cruise Line’s branding. The ship was originally built for Genting Hong Kong, though it was never completed. Disney Cruise Line bought the unfinished ship in late 2022.
Disney announced back in March 2023 that they plan to operate the ship in Singapore starting in 2025. However, more recent rumors suggest the ship might be delayed until 2026. A delay seems likely given how long it took work to ramp up and the amount of work that will be required to bring the ship in line with Disney’s fleet.
Meanwhile, Disney Cruise Line’s sixth traditional ship, the Disney Treasure, is currently scheduled to debut in 2024.
