Guests visiting Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point should be ready for a lengthy walk on the dock to begin their day. The Disney Magic docked at Lookout Cay during a preview visit to Disney’s new tropical destination, revealing how the experience will compare to the beloved Castaway Cay.
One key difference is the docking experience. Unlike Castaway Cay, Lookout Cay requires ships to dock at a pier that’s roughly half a mile in length. That means a lot of walking for guests just to get on land.
Disney committed to a limited environmental impact while building out Lookout Cay. That included positioning the dock where it is, protecting the area closest to land.
Shuttle service will be provided for guests with mobility issues. However, no trams are expected to run on the dock. The walkway is relatively narrow, and it’s unlikely we’ll see trams in the future even if Disney receives negative guest feedback. We are surprised Disney didn’t plan for any shade on the pier, which is something we’ve seen easily accomplished at Royal Caribbean’s Coco Cay.
Trams will be available once guests reach land to take them to the Family Beach or the adults-only Serenity Bay. That’s a relief as it’s a long hike over to the far side of the island.
Lookout Cay will have a lot of similarities to the fan-favorite Castaway Cay. But, as we’re seeing with the lengthy walk to start and end the day, there’s going to be some big differences. Will guests enjoy Lookout Cay as much as Castaway Cay?
