New Construction Update on CommuniCore Hall at EPCOT

Updated:

CommuniCore Hall and Plaza is the last section of EPCOT’s World Celebration that still sits behind construction halls. The new event and exhibition space is scheduled open at some point in 2024, and crews continue to work on the interior and exterior of the new building.

Friend of the site DC Baker captured some great looks of the progress on CommuniCore Hall since we last checked in.

Here we can see crews continuing to work on the exterior of CommuniCore Hall.

Speaking of the exterior, the panels mimicking the look of Spaceship Earth are an instant win. We’d love to see these lit up at night to match the various light displays on Spaceship Earth, similar to the other lighting installations in World Celebration.

We also like some of the murals and artwork that reference classic Disney characters and EPCOT icons.

We spy a nod to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and the beloved Dreamfinder from the old Journey into Imagination.

It’s always interesting to see how often Disney will reference the old Journey into Imagination attraction (and Dreamfinder), and yet the Imagination Pavilion remains in desperate need of an update. But, that’s a rant for another day.

Once completed, CommuniCore Hall & Plaza will serve as the new home for festivals at EPCOT. Disney spoke about the new space:

These new spaces extend the EPCOT festivals beyond World Showcase and provide a new home for additional exhibits and entertainment, offering the perfect space to gather with family and friends.

There’s clearly still a good amount of work left on CommuniCore Hall & Plaza. Disney has only said it will be “completed in 2024” in their preview of what’s opening in 2024. We’d imagine they’d want to have it ready for guests by the Fall, but that might be optimistic thinking. Disney has had some extremely long construction timelines (looking at you Cosmic Rewind and TRON: Lightcycle Run), so we don’t want to get our hopes up.

Look for Disney to start promoting the CommuniCore Hall & Plaza in the coming months as it gets closer to completion. There aren’t any major rides or additions coming to Walt Disney World in the near future, so we’re fully expecting a marketing push for CommuniCore Hall & Plaza.
