Rumor: Innoventions West and Club Cool to be demolished at Epcot

Updated:

Epcot’s Future World could see some significant changes in the near future. According to several reports and rumors, the Innoventions West building will be demolished and replaced with something new. Club Cool and the current Starbucks Fountain View location will also be demolished.

Disney insider Martin Smith alluded to the future demolition of Innoventions West back in February, hinting that Innoventions East survived the chopping block.

“East trumps west. Take your photos now.”

That’s not to say Innoventions East won’t see any changes. It’s likely the area will see significant remodeling once the Innoventions West area is closer to completion.

Currently, Innoventions West is home to the Epcot Character Spot. It’s believed that all of the characters will find new homes, potentially in multiple locations, during the demolition and construction of whatever is next. The rest of the Innoventions West building has been mostly closed to guests since 2015.

While Disney hasn’t officially announced the Future World changes, it’s worth noting that Innoventions West is missing from the Epcot entrance concept art Disney highlighted during their recent announcement. The area to the right of Spaceship Earth where the building should be shows trees and shadows instead.

While concept art isn’t always the most reliable, it looks like Disney intentionally avoided showing what the Innoventions West area will look like in the future.

Starbucks will likely find a new temporary home (you don’t really think they’d get rid of Starbucks, do you?) during the project. The most logical location could be the Odyssey Building, which will also be the new location where guests can learn about all the projects taking place at Epcot.

It doesn’t sound like Club Cool is in any of the future plans or rumors, but that could change. For now, it sounds like tricking a family member to drink Beverly and walking across the sticky floor will become memories of the old Epcot.
