Back in early 2018, permits were filed suggesting that a new hotel could be built near the main entrance of Epcot. Other rumors at the time speculated that an Epcot hotel could be built in an area inside the park itself should the main entrance location not work out.
Thankfully, it sounds like these rumors won’t be coming to fruition.
Disney’s plans for a main entrance overhaul at Epcot have effectively killed off the rumors that stated a hotel could sit in the current entrance and bus loading areas. Meanwhile, Disney insiders have confirmed that the idea as a whole – an Epcot hotel in one location or another – is no longer in Walt Disney World’s plans.
The respectable insider Martin Smith has stated that both ideas, a main entrance hotel or an in-park hotel, are dead in the water. It’s unclear at this time just how close one of these ideas came to being approved.
Despite this plan being dismissed, Epcot will be seeing some significant changes in the near future. In addition to the updated arrival experience outside Spaceship Earth and the new Guardians of the Galaxy coaster, new rumors have indicated that Future World will be receiving an overhaul that will create a beer garden, festival center and more.
At this time, Disney has only officially announced the changes to the main entrance and the new Play Pavilion. Look for more announcements regarding the future vision of Future World and Epcot as a whole in the near future.
