It’s been a bit since we checked in on the construction of TRON Lightcycle Run at the Magic Kingdom. Our last update mentioned that the building had been sealed off and interior construction had been put on hold. Meanwhile, work on the exterior canopy has pressed on and is nearing completion.
The steel structure that makes up the canopy’s frame is almost finished.

Will there be a topping off ceremony? In American construction it’s common for the last piece of a structure to be raised with a flag and a tree. pic.twitter.com/BoVoTaizRz

With the canopy’s shape in place, we can see how the finished project will alter the views around Tomorrowland.

The views from Storybook Circus are going to be very different to say the least.

Panels will be added to cover up the steel beams after the main structure is completed. These panels will be illuminated for some spectacular nighttime views.
We can see how the finished canopy will look based on the concept art.
For a better idea of what the finished TRON Lightcycle Run will look like, we can refer to the nearly identical TRON coaster that’s in Shanghai Disneyland. The walkways in Shanghai are different than what we will see in Tomorrowland, but the building itself is very similar.
We can also look to Shanghai Disneyland for an example of how the canopy illuminates at night. The lighting cycles from a pulsing blue color to a colorful gradient.
TRON Lightcycle Run was originally expected to open in 2021 at the Magic Kingdom. That date has reportedly been pushed back to 2022, but is still expected to be apart of Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration.
