Time is running out to experience Spaceship Earth in its current form. Disney has announced that the iconic Epcot attraction will close on May 26, 2020 to make way for a reimagining that will update many scenes and introduce brand new scenes to the ride.
Disney’s description on what the new Spaceship Earth will contain, as seen in the announcement:
The preview of an updated Egypt scene shows how light will assist in transforming the scene into something guests haven’t seen before. Projections appear to be play an intricate role in the reimagined Spaceship Earth.
Beyond the updates to the scenes themselves, the entire ride’s track is expected to be replaced during the closure.
The announcement doesn’t indicate exactly how long Spaceship Earth will be closed. However, earlier rumors suggested that it may be closed for as long as two years due to the scale and size of the project. That timeline is not official and may change along with the scope of the project.
