Epcot’s Spaceship Earth is receiving a new permanent nighttime lighting package ahead of Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary. The upgrade includes new lighting elements installed on the exterior of the iconic building.
Sharp-eyed guests have been able to spot the small light fixtures going up around Spaceship Earth. These lights are easier to see now that more have been added to the bottom of Spaceship Earth.

The lighting fixtures aren’t too obvious when standing by the fountain in the main entrance area. They blend in fairly well in the gaps where Spaceship Earth’s panels connect.
It’s only when you really focus on the lights, or use the zoom on your camera, that the hardware is more apparent.

The points of light are supposed to resemble “shimmering stars in a nighttime sky” based on Disney’s concept art.
The lighting fixtures should transition in terms of brightness and color, complementing the projected lights.
Spaceship Earth’s new nighttime lighting package should be completed before Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary on October 1, 2021.
