Disney has shared new information about the upgraded nighttime lighting coming to Epcot’s Spaceship Earth. New lighting fixtures will be installed around the exterior of Spaceship Earth, combining with updated projections to change the appearance of Epcot’s icon.
Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley shared an early look at the installation of the new lighting fixtures.

Disney is still in the early testing phase of the lighting fixtures. Assuming things go well, crews will begin adding more of these points of light from the top to the bottom of Spaceship Earth.
Originally, we believed these lights would sit more flush with Spaceship Earth’s exterior. The hope was the lights would be truly seamless. Instead, these lights appear to be fairly obvious and could make for an interesting bedazzled change to Spaceship Earth’s daytime appearance.
The released concept art offers an idea of how the new lights will look at night.
Spaceship Earth’s new nighttime look will debut for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary. An official date hasn’t been announced, but guests may see the changes well ahead of the official anniversary date on October 1, 2021.
