EPCOT is supposed to have a new fireworks show debut in World Showcase Lagoon in 2023. Disney has provided minimal information about the new show to this point, but thanks to some updated aerial photos, we can see the new barges that will bring the show to life.
The always great @bioreconstruct has a great look at two of the barges.
Note the two motors seen on the right side of each barge in the picture above. This suggests (though Disney hasn’t confirmed) that the barges for the new show will enter and exit World Showcase Lagoon each day. That’d solve one of the biggest problems with the old show, Harmonious, where the massive barges remained in the Lagoon and ruined the sightlines during the day.
It’s also noteworthy that the new barges appear to be primarily set up for fireworks and lack the extensive piping and equipment needed for fountains. Remember how massive the barges were for Harmonious? Clearly, these are scaled way down.
Let’s compare the barges to the concept art below.
The points of white light in the concept art could be representative of where the barges will sit. If that’s true, there’d be six barges circling a main center point. That’s speculation, but it does line up pretty nicely.
It’s a bit odd that Disney has said so little about the new EPCOT fireworks show. They might feel a bit burned with how poorly Harmonious was received, and may be playing things a bit more slowly for the unnamed EPCOT show. Assuming the show is still going to debut in 2023, Disney should start releasing more information on the show soon.
