The Walt Disney World website has been updated with some new information on Genie+. Disney has added a statement that says guests with Genie+ are able to use Lightning Lane two to three times per day on average at Walt Disney World. They specifically note that the average assumes the first selection is made early in the day.
Below is the new addition to the Lightning Lane portion of the Walt Disney World website.
On average, guests can enter 2 to 3 attractions or experiences per day using the Lightning Lane entrance if the first selection is made early in the day.
Disney appears to be trying to set expectations for guests purchasing Genie+. The assumption might be that a guest could use Lightning Lane for a bunch of attractions all day. Unfortunately, the reality is Lightning Lane reservations “sell out” extremely early and leave guests with nothing to choose.
The Genie+ problem is particularly bad at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The limited number of attractions combined with large crowds make Genie+ a tough sell at these two parks. There isn’t enough inventory at these parks to make Genie+ a worthwhile purchase for most guests.
Disney highlighting the issue with Genie+ at Walt Disney World is particularly frustrating as it’s a harsh reminder that guests used to have three “skip the line” passes included with their park ticket. Now, paying for Genie+ maybe gets you two or three “skip the line” passes, but only if you get up bright and early. Guests are paying more with the real possibility of getting less.
This text was not added to Disneyland’s website where Genie+ has far more availability and is a much more pleasant experience.
