Disney Genie Changes How Initial Arrival Times Are Displayed

Date:

The latest update to the My Disney Experience app has changed how arrival times are displayed for Disney Genie. The Genie Tip Board now displays “Check Availability” instead of an arrival window when guests make Lightning Lane selections between 7:00am and 7:30am.

Disney rolled out this change in an effort to remove some of the frustration and confusion guests face on Disney Genie during peak times.

Previously, guests would see an estimated return time by each ride when making their initial picks. For example, a guest could see a return time of 10:00am to 11:00am for Slinky Dog Dash. That time could change dramatically (think hours later) by the time their reservation is completed. The 10:00am to 11:00am window might become 4:00pm to 5:00pm, or worse. This obviously isn’t ideal.

Disney has been dealing with a series of guest complaints ever since Disney Genie launched in October 2021. As a result, Disney has warned guests should not rely on posted wait times and should expect to use Lightning Lane two to three times per day with Genie+.

Disney Genie is an evolving system at Walt Disney World and Disneyland, and we’d expect more changes in the future.
