Construction has started for the walkway connecting the Grand Floridian Resort to the Magic Kingdom

Work is already underway for the new walkway that will connect the Grand Floridian Resort to the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Just a couple weeks after it was discovered that a walkway was in Disney’s plans, crews have already moved equipment into place and are beginning to build the bridge that will extend over the canal.

The walkway project will require two bridges in order to bring guests from the Grand Floridian Resort area over to the Magic Kingdom. One is a stationary bridge that will extend over a small stretch of water closest to the Grand Floridian Resort and the other is a more involved “swinging” bridge that will be able to move out of the way for access to the canal.

That second bridge location is the one pictured below:

For reference, we estimate that walking from the Grand Floridian Resort to the Magic Kingdom will take approximately 20-25 minutes. That’s about the same distance guests experience when walking between the Epcot Resort Area and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

We love that Disney is expanding its walking paths. We have always enjoyed staying in the Epcot Resort Area due to its walking access to both Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Having the ability to walk back and forth at your own convenience makes a vacation far more flexible.
