Disney announced in February 2023 that an “Avatar experience” is coming to Disneyland Resort. Since that time, Disney fans have widely speculated about what that could mean, and where an update could fit in the park. Details remain light, but a new D23 article discusses the topic a bit further.
One key statement from the article mentions that the Avatar experience at Disneyland, whatever it might be, will be “as amazing” as the experiences at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World.
Via D23:
While details on the coming Avatar experience remain under wraps, it promises to be as amazing as those found at Walt Disney World Resort. “If you’ve had a chance to experience Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, you have a pretty good idea of what Imagineers are capable of,” said Disney CEO Robert A. Iger when he announced the plans on February 8.
That’d be a bold claim if the plans for Disneyland only called for a meet-and-greet area.
It’s worth noting the D23 article was originally titled “Avatar: The Way of Water Stars React to News of Pandora Coming to Disneyland Resort” before being changed to remove the mention of Pandora. The headline was modified to call it an “Avatar Experience” instead. Disney does not want guests making assumptions that all of Pandora is coming to Disneyland, apparently.
The article features the reactions from the Way of Waters cast about the news that an Avatar something is coming to Disneyland, but leaves the most pressing questions unanswered. However, with the news that Bruce Vaughn is returning to Walt Disney Imagineering, it’s clear Disney is making moves on some significant projects at its theme parks.
