When can we do this again? Disney has teased the return of the Paint the Night parade at Disneyland Resort. The short video showed glimpses of the Mack Truck float alongside the familiar Owl City soundtrack. Neither a return date or location were mentioned in the teaser.

This is a long-awaited return. Paint the Night debuted in 2015 during Disneyland Park’s 60th anniversary celebration. The parade, which had over 1.5 million LED lights for its original run, ran until September 2016 before turning seasonal. Then, Paint the Night went dark as the Main Street Electrical Parade returned. It later returned in a modified format at Disney California Adventure in 2018, but has since been retired.
It’s unclear why Paint the Night has taken so long to come back. Lots of rumors have swirled over the years, ranging from the costumes potentially being too heavy for the performers to the parade being too expensive to operate. The exact reason is only known by Disney. It’ll be interesting to see how similar this returning version of Paint the Night is to the ones before it.
Paint the Night developed a passionate following despite its relatively short run. Many love the soundtrack (it’s super catchy) and the parade received lots of praise for its large and creative floats. There’s no question crowds will be enormous when Paint the Night makes its grand return.
