Disneyland Resort is ending the sale of MagicBand+ products on property. The announcement comes after guests noticed MagicBands were no longer being stocked in several merchandise locations at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure.
While MagicBands will no longer be sold at Disneyland, they can still be used. Guests will still be able to use MagicBands to enter the parks, redeem Lightning Lanes, and enjoy other interactive features.
No changes are being made at Walt Disney World or on Disney Cruise Line. Guests can still purchase MagicBands at Walt Disney World, on Disney cruise ships, and online at DisneyStore.com. Disney is only changing the availability of MagicBands at Disneyland Resort at this time.
Why is Disney moving away from MagicBands at Disneyland? We think it’s simple – the bands never really gained popularity for a majority of Disneyland guests.
Unlike Walt Disney World, the bands had limited functionality at Disneyland Resort. Guests couldn’t unlock their resort room with their MagicBand, and they couldn’t use the bands to make purchases. Those are two of the best features of the bands in Walt Disney World. Disney didn’t fully flesh out the MagicBand experience in Disneyland, and that made the bands feel much more optional.
