Disney Working on “Something to Come Back” to ‘Fantasmic!’ at Disneyland Park

Updated:

Fantasmic! made its long-awaited return to Disneyland Park earlier this month. The show, which had been dark since the Maleficent dragon tragically burned down, returned with an updated Peter Pan section and an altered battle between Mickey and Maleficent. The show no longer includes a fire-breathing dragon, but will that change in the future?

As seen in an article by the LA Times, Disney sounds like they’re still working on bringing “something” back to the show.

Weโ€™re excited for something to come back, and weโ€™re in the works and working on it,โ€ Longo says. โ€œBut I think what Iโ€™ve done with that scene โ€” that good versus evil and that battle between Maleficent and Mickey โ€” is so spectacular. We all loved the dragon, and weโ€™ll keep working on things, but thereโ€™s not much I can say about it.โ€

Disney Live Entertainmentโ€™s Tobi Longo

The comments made from Disney Live Entertainmentโ€™s Tobi Longo are vague to say the least. It could mean a new dragon is being worked on, or it could mean something else entirely. It could also be a comment that never comes to fruition, which we have unfortunately seen from Disney in the past. All of that is to say we wouldn’t get our hopes up or get too married to this comment.

We do think Disney may be working on an enhancement for the missing dragon scene. It’s worth noting the current version is essentially the show’s old “B” mode, and it seems a bit odd that the show would be dark for a year without any significant changes or additions. It’s also a shame as the Disneyland version of Fantasmic! was widely considered the best, and while we still think it is, the gap with Walt Disney World’s version has narrowed.

Regardless of any possible future enhancements, it’s great to have Fantasmic! playing again at Disneyland Park.
