Disney CEO Bob Iger provided a quick update on the addition of Avatar to Disneyland Resort in California. While speaking during the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference, Iger mentioned that a full Avatar land is coming west.
Iger:
“We have one Avatar based land, Pandora, in Florida. We’re going to put a second one in California.”
Previously, Disney had said that an Avatar “experience” was coming to Disneyland Resort. It wasn’t clear what that meant (Disney was very vague in the announcement), but they later clarified that the Disneyland experience would be “as amazing” as the one at Walt Disney World.
Iger also mentioned that Disney could build seven new full lands at Disney parks around the world if they wanted. He added that Disneyland Resort has enough land to expand by more than 50%.

That 50% expansion figure is going to grab a lot of attention. We’d love to see more capacity and more attractions added to both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. We love Disneyland Resort. Make it happen!
But, we can’t help but point out that Disney is once again talking about expanding its theme parks. This isn’t the first time Disney has talked about new lands and new possibilities. But, Disney hasn’t firmly committed to any plans, nor have they broken ground on anything substantial at its theme parks in the United States. It’ll be years before anything can open even if ground is broken today.
Shifting back to Avatar, will Disney put a clone of Pandora out in Disneyland Resort? Or should they develop something new (like something from Avatar Way of Water) to offer a new experience?
